EIA Women’s Council Offers Assistance for College Expenses

EIA Women’s Council Seeking 2010 Scholarship Applicants

Washington, DC – The Environmental Industry Association’s (EIA) Women’s Council is requesting applications by March 31, 2010, for available $2,500 scholarships.

Eligible applicants include students who are employed by, or who are dependents of persons employed by members of the two Environmental Industry Associations: NSWMA (National Solid Wastes Management Association) or WASTEC (Waste Technology Equipment Association). Applicants must be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate education relating to a career in the environmental industry at a U.S. college or university and must use the scholarship funds for tuition and fees.

The Council will review various factors when identifying recipients including the applicant’s indication of interest in promoting the professional advancement of women in the environmental industry, record of scholastic achievement and community service, and recommendations by instructors, employers, or other personal references.

The Women’s Council initiated the scholarship program in 2007. Funding to support the effort is generated through the sale of the Women’s Council coloring books which are published annually and feature various industry related pictures and text. Past scholarship recipients are working toward business, environmental engineering and wildlife conservation degrees.

EIA Women’s Council-is a professional organization that works to benefit the waste industry by the professional advancement of women through meaningful and useful education, assistance, support and mentoring.

EIA is the trade association that represents the private sector solid waste and recycling industry through its two sub-associations, the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA) and the Waste Equipment Technology Association (WASTEC). NSWMA represents for-profit companies in North America that provide solid, hazardous and medical waste collection, recycling and waste disposal services, and companies that provide professional and consulting services to the waste services industry. WASTEC represents companies that design, build, distribute, service and consult with respect to the equipment and technology systems that are used to collect, contain, transport, store, process, recycle, treat and dispose of the world's solid wastes and recyclable materials.
