TULSA, OKLA. – Following what has been called the deadliest tornado in 60 years, American Waste Control (AWC) of Tulsa has joined with Reasor's to deliver multiple containers of food and water to the disaster relief effort in Joplin.

American Waste delivered the needed relief supplies, donated by Reasor's and Reasor's customers, last week in addition to providing the storage containers.  American Waste Control is continuing to deliver much needed supplies to the area in the coming weeks.

"We are so honored to join with Reasor's in helping the families of Joplin," says American Waste Control CEO Tom Hill. "By helping carry out this relief effort from Tulsa, I know we’re doing what we can to help these suffering families and give to people in need. We believe we’re in a unique position to help the families and show support to the many workers who are working tirelessly to save lives. We pray for the many victims of this terrible disaster and for the mending of lives in the painful aftermath."

The tornado that pulverized parts of Joplin over a week ago on Sunday cut a path a half-mile wide across the city, taking out the main hospital, businesses and thousands of homes. The death toll from the massive twister reached 132 last Friday, a city spokeswoman said, as disaster workers continue to work to provide relief for the thousands of people still reeling from the devastation.

"All of the employees of American Waste Control wanted to pitch in and help out," said Hill. "We know if we were in need our neighbors in Joplin would be there for us and so we want to be there for them in their time of need."

American Waste Control, Tulsa Recycle and Transfer and American Environmental Landfill were founded by Kenneth Burkett in 1980, 1987 and 2001 respectively.  Burkett employs over 150 people among his three companies and is ranked as the 40th largest private hauler in the U.S. according to Waste Age magazine.  Tulsa Recycle and Transfer sorts through more than 900 tons of waste everyday in order to divert more trash from landfills than any other company in Oklahoma.  American Environmental Landfill is credited as being the “best operated [landfill] in the state,” according to the Department of Environmental Quality by meeting or exceeding all regulatory compliance standards.  Burkett has grown his companies with a focus on taking care of his employees and by providing his customers the best in customer service.
