ACE Solid Waste executive Denny Fredrickson saw a tendril wrapped around the leaf on a bush near his cabin and got an idea. "I wanted to created something that could be worn as one piece or separated into two," he said. As a result, Fredrickson created The Hug pendent. "If you look at the pendant just right it looks like two arms wrapping around a body, holding it close for a hug."
Fredrickson worked with a local jeweler to perfect the design.
The sterling silver ribbon raps around a leaf that holds one of four messages: Faith, Love, Hope and Hug.
Fredrickson is using the sales of the piece to raise funds to support different charitable groups. He will be selling his jewelry at a Muscular Dystrophy Association fund raiser on May 16th. (Fredrickson's nephew has Muscular Dystrophy.) He is looking at other organizations as well.
"The pendent can be given to a daughter on her engagement or a son as he leaves for military service. It could be a gift to someone battling cancer or having a baby," he said. "After times of separation the two pieces can be brought back together and made whole again."
In addition to being sold in various stores in Minnesota, The Hug can be purchased at Fredrickson’s website.
