Industry Makes Vital Social Contributions to Local Communities

Advanced Disposal Bag Ladies Help Promote Recycling and Reduce Litter and Waste

A group of employees of Advanced Disposal represents the company at community events, where there are large numbers of people drinking from plastic bottles and/or aluminum cans that can be recycled. Members of the group – called the “Bag Ladies” – wear a uniform and carry blue bags for the collection of recyclables. These women promote recycling and help reduce litter and waste, and they represent the company’s commitment to cleaner communities.

The Bag Ladies are very personable and ask people for their recyclable bottles and cans while distributing a flyer promoting the benefits of recycling. The program promotes Advanced Disposal in a very positive “green” light, is a fun, entertaining way to spread the message of recycling, and helps to reduce the quantity of solid waste generated and requiring disposal at special events.

Advanced Disposal is a company providing solid waste collection, transfer and disposal operations to more than 25,000 commercial customers and 485,000 residential customers throughout Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Alabama.

The solid waste industry is the leading collector and processor of recyclables that Americans generate every day. We helped America reach a nearly 33 percent recycling rate in 2006. The Advanced Disposal is one example of programs that the industry has developed to educate consumers on the benefits of recycling. America’s solid waste industry collected and processed more than 61 million tons of recyclables in 2006.

This program also demonstrates how America’s solid waste industry makes vital social contributions to local communities. Our companies and employees are active community participants and promote civic goals and goodwill through sponsorships and direct involvement.
