Advanced Disposal Supports Beach Clean-up Effort

In late March, a group of about 200 Nease High School freshman and sophomores spent Saturday morning on a mission to clean up all 42 miles of St. Johns County's beaches.

Advanced Disposal got involved, providing orange trash bags and their equipment and facilities to dispose of all the trash. The company even provided 200 blue T-shirts for the students to wear on the big day.

The idea sprang out of necessity at the beginning of the school year, the freshman and sophomores in Nease's International Baccalaureate program needed to find a way to complete their community service requirement. The beach clean-up required coordination with the state park services and the St. Johns County solid waste department.

When asked what they would be doing at this time on a Saturday if they weren't cleaning the beach, the entire group shouted: "Sleeping!" But in the end, they were pleased to be out of bed. They agreed going to the beach this summer will be nicer, knowing they had done their part to try to make it a better place.
